Recycling
Recycling
- 80% of municipal waste is recyclable
- Recycling 1 tonne of newspapers prevents releasing 2,5 tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere,
salvages 17 trees, saves roughly 3 m3 on waste dumps and provides enough energy for heating an average house
for 6 months!
- Althought there is an increased usage of recyclable material in the paper industry here, in most countries
the dominant method of waste disposal is sticking waste in dumps or landfill sites.
Recycling paper saves :
- 65% of energy
- 75% airborne release
- 35% sewerage water
- also 70 - 100% trees
How can you personally help to increase the recycling of paper?
- Use paper for writing, printing and copying on both sides
- Ask for normal white paper – it's not necessary always to use the whitest and the shiniest paper
- collect and separate old paper , use recycled paper - introduce this system in work or at school
- speak to your corporation, town or council office and ask them to separate old paper and to use recycled
(it is supposed to be a system operation, not the good will of individuals)
- support a system of ecological production of paper (tree-free paper,chlorine-free paper, paper from
certificated forests).
