A Giraffe in the Rain / Une girafe sous la pluie

Hecquet Pascale / Belgium, France / 2007 / 12 min.

One day a giraffe discovers that a local autocrat has disconnected the water supply. As soon as she stands up against this injustice she is expelled from her home. Winning acceptance in her new home is not easy. After a never–ending wait to apply for asylum, the giraffe is met at her new rented accommodation by the suspicious looks of the grumpy owner. The next day she is rejected for one job after another because of her origins, which drives the poor giraffe to desperation. Finally things begin to look up when she befriends the gardener's dog and gets to make use of her long neck at work. But to enjoy a happy life in her new country the giraffe needs a positive response to her asylum application. Featuring many funny scenes, this playful animated film by director Pascal Hecquet perfectly captures the typical obstacles which almost every immigrant, including the giraffe, encounters in a new country.
